August 1st
We had the BEST Day!
Started off going to see Spider-man in the "Fancy' Theaters.
We had Mark & Joanne's kids - Molly, Tryg & Luke.
Molly ended up throwing up on Grandpa in the movie theater (not good).
So I called Joanne and she picked her up.
The movie was really good.
After the movie, we went home so grandpa could change his clothes and we continued on our great day!
We went to Cabrillo National Monument first - it was a beautiful day!
These cousins sure love each other.
I'm so thankful for that!
After we left Cabrillo we had read about some fun "free" things to see in San Diego.
One of them was called the USS Recruit, also affectionaly nicknamed the USS Neversail, because it never actually touched water.
One of them was called the USS Recruit, also affectionaly nicknamed the USS Neversail, because it never actually touched water.
USS Recruit (TDE-1, later TFFG-1) was a landlocked "dummy" training ship of the United States Navy, located at the Naval Training Center in the Point Loma area of San Diego. She was built to scale, two-thirds the size of a Dealey-class destroyer escort, and was commissioned on July 27, 1949.[1] Recruit was commissioned for 18 years, for much of that period the only landlocked ship to hold that status in the U.S. Navy.
The Recruit still stands, currently unused, with the hope that she will someday become a maritime museum.[4] She is included in the Naval Training Center's listing on the National Register of Historic Places.[5][6] She now stands adjacent to a retail area of Liberty Station,
as the redeveloped base is known, and can be seen from North Harbor
Drive. She appears to be the only surviving example of the Navy's
landlocked ships, or "landships".
We also had heard about this really cool yard that was completely turned into a variety of Topiary's.
It was really cool.
The kids really wanted to do some jumping pictures.
It was a bit tricky with cars going by frequently.
We ended our day having some Mexican Food in Old Town.
